Before the Blend: How to Prep for your Extension Appointment
There’s something magnetic about a flawless blend that's so natural-looking it simply feels like it’s, well, an extension of you.
Whether you’re coming in for K-Tips, Genius Wefts, or our signature Cocktail Method, a little prep makes a big difference. This guide walks you through what to know before booking, how to prep for your appointment, and how to care for your hair after install.
Before you book
First time getting extensions with us? Welcome. We’re so glad you’re here.
To get started, you’ll need to do two quick things:
› Fill out the extension interest form
› Book your extension strategy session
This helps us understand your goals, hair history, and the type of install that makes the most sense for your lifestyle. Every extension service is custom, and this step ensures we match you with the right method, hair type, and maintenance plan.
Consultations also give you space to ask questions, see your shade options, and get pricing clarity before making a commitment. Trust us: You’ll leave feeling more confident and better prepared for your actual install day.
If we’ve already met for your consult or you’re one of our regulars, you’re ready to book. Head over to the booking page and choose your next extension service.
Prep for appointment day
Here’s how to arrive prepped and ready for your install.
Wash the night before.
Clean, dry hair is key. Shampoo and condition the night before, then blow it out smooth with minimal product. No oils, leave-ins, or styling creams. A clean base helps your extensions hold properly and blend seamlessly.
Dress for comfort.
Depending on the method and how much hair we’re installing, you may be in the chair for a few hours. Wear something soft and simple (no bulky collars or hoods) and bring something to help you relax, like headphones, a book, or just your phone with a full battery.
For anything we didn’t already cover in your consult, feel free to ask.
We want you to feel confident and informed from start to finish, so don’t hesitate to speak up if something’s unclear or you're unsure about next steps. Feel free to bring any additional photos/inspo to your appointment, or reach out to your stylist or support@inspirehairco.com with any questions beforehand.
Aftercare & maintenance
Your stylist will go over a care plan that fits your install, but here are the basics:
› Wait 48 hours before shampooing
› Use a silk pillowcase or bonnet while sleeping
› Brush gently with a loop or extension-safe brush
› Keep products away from the root or bond area
› Book your move-up or maintenance appointments on time
We typically recommend coming in every 6 to 8 weeks to keep everything feeling secure and looking natural. Your stylist will let you know the ideal timing based on your install type and how your natural hair grows.
