To protect your hair, go with a mineral-based sunscreen that uses Zinc Oxide or Titanium Dioxide. These are gentler on your strands and safer for both your skin and extensions.

Apply sunscreen carefully

When applying SPF, wash your hands thoroughly before touching your hair. Leftover lotion on your fingers can transfer to your extensions and dull or stain the color. It’s best to apply sunscreen before you style your hair to avoid unwanted contact.

Shield your hair from the sun

Before you dive into the pool or ocean, rinse your hair with fresh water and apply a leave-in conditioner. This helps limit how much chlorine or salt your hair soaks up. A loose braid or low ponytail can also keep your hair from getting tangled while you swim.

Don’t skip post-swim care

After swimming, rinse your hair thoroughly to remove any buildup. Use a gentle, sulfate-free shampoo and a hydrating mask or conditioner to replenish moisture. A loop brush or extension-safe detangler will help you maintain the integrity and smoothness of your install.
